Dire Warning from Homeland Secuity about PC Security Patch
In a recent news article from the BBC, the US Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a warning for Americans to make sure their PCs have all the latest security patches installed ASAP. In particular, their concern covers one of many flaws that would allow the attacker complete remote control of your PC.
Says the BBC, "Microsoft's recent update fixed 23 flaws found in Windows software. Many of these bugs are known to malicious hackers and some are already actively exploited on the net."
If you have not visited the Windows Update site very recently, I suggest you do. If you already have INVISUS BigFix installed, you have nothing to worry about since Big Fix has already made sure to patch your computer for you if it wasn't done already.
Microsoft releases new patches only once a month on the 2nd Tuesday. This time 7 of the 23 fixes were marked as CRITICAL, their highest rating. If you go to the Windows Update site, or use the Windows Update tool on your PC, you will notice that several updates have not been installed on your PC, even if you have the Automatic Updates feature turned on. The Automatic Updates feature only installs Critical fixes, so you will find other important updates still not installed.
Also if you have MS Office on your computer, be sure that you regularly visit the Office Update site (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdate/default.aspx) because those updates are rarely, if ever, included with Windows updates.
You can also read more from the BBC or DHS.
