The Power Company Is Even Warning Of Viruses…Are You Safe?
I went online to pay the power bill tonight (yes, I pay my bills online, but I take serious measures to protect myself from Identity Theft, the main countermeasure is INVISUS Direct), and saw a virus warning from the power company. It’s good to let everyone know about these kinds of things, but especially when it comes to paying your bills online.
I spoke to someone at a computer store the other day who said he NEVER does anything like this online. I think that’s bit overboard. The Internet is an incredible tool for paying your bills, communicating with family and friends, and so much more! Yes, it’s dangerous, too, so we need to stay as far ahead of the hackers as we can. Keep tuning into this site for the latest stuff I find combing the ‘Net for you, and consider adding Internet Security Software like INVISUS to protect your PC.
Here’s the announcement from ePay:
"Internet virus may pose risk to ePay customers. We have become aware of an Internet virus (Trojan.Banker.xxxx) that seeks to obtain customers’ personal information, including their Internet banking user ID or password.
This Virus monitors Microsoft® Internet Explorer and waits for customers to visit one of dozens of banking and financial Web sites. It may appear to look like a phishing scam. As an example of what a customer might experience, once a user begins the logon process, the Virus creates a pop-up window to replace the actual logon page. These pop-up windows are customized for each Web site and are designed to look like the real logon page.
The Virus may impact customers with outdated or inadequate antivirus and/or Spyware tools on their personal computers. These customers may have received the virus if they responded to an unauthorized infected e-mail or visited an infected Web site.
To help protect yourself from this and other Internet threats, make sure you use updated antivirus and/or Spyware tools. For details on this and other viruses, please contact your antivirus software provider."
Now if the power company is trying to give you the 'watch your PC's back' speech because they know THEY can't protect you on YOUR end, don't you think that you should have the very best security service available like they do? Or do you really want to wonder, try to ignore the actual threat that exists today, or try to do the duck and dodge much longer? Of course not. Get Invisible folks - Get Invisus, with us.
